Friendship Seminars

Ever wish you could see aikido through someone else’s eyes?

Friendship Seminars are a chance to do just that—an evening of open practice where you meet new partners, feel fresh timing, and experience a different flavor of aikido.

Capital Aikikai of Wisconsin is excited to host our first-ever Friendship Seminar with Lynn Litterer Sensei from Aikido of Madison on Thursday, December 18 at 6:00 pm.

All levels and visitors are welcome. Come train, connect, and celebrate the spirit of friendship through practice.

Training together, learning together

Ever wish you could see aikido through someone else’s eyes? That’s what a Friendship Seminar offers—a chance to step onto the mat with people from other dojos, feel a new rhythm, and discover fresh ways of moving together. These seminars are informal and welcoming. You don’t have to be an advanced student or know the hosting dojo’s style. You just show up, train, and experience aikido from a slightly different angle. Every dojo has its own “dialect” of aikido, and trying another one can spark insights you didn’t expect—about timing, balance, and even how you learn.

They’re also a great way to meet others who love aikido as much as you do. You’ll partner with new people, share stories between rounds, and leave with the quiet satisfaction that comes from training hard and learning something new.

Capital Aikikai of Wisconsin is excited to join this Midwest tradition by hosting our first-ever Friendship Seminar, led by Lynn Litterer Sensei from Aikido of Madison.

About Litterer Sensei

Lynn has been a dedicated aikido student for over forty years, beginning her practice at the University of Minnesota in 1981. She trained under Jim Bergseth Sensei at the Twin Cities Aikido Center and Patrick Riley Sensei at the university, attending seminars with members of the Midwest Aikido Federation under Akira Tohei Sensei.

After Tohei Sensei’s passing, she continued her training with Zenko Okimura Sensei. Since moving to Madison in 2005, Lynn has trained with Robin Cooper Sensei and John Stone Sensei, remaining active in seminars to engage with the broader aikido community and deepen her understanding of the art.

She brings a calm, centered approach to movement—grounded in decades of practice and a spirit of openness that fits perfectly with the friendship seminar tradition.
